Shape Attitude Ghana Marks 2026 World Environment Day with Stewardship Campaign

Shape Attitude Ghana, a Winneba-based non-governmental organisation, commemorated the 2026 World Environment Day with students from Presbyterian and Municipal Assembly Basic and Junior High Schools at Presby School Park in Winneba on Friday, 5th June, 2026.
The event renewed calls for responsible environmental practices and community action against pollution.
The event, which also marked the organisation's 12th anniversary, was held under the theme, "Restoring Our Earth: Local Action, National Impact." It brought together education stakeholders, environmental advocates, teachers and students to promote environmental consciousness among young people.

Mr. Wonderful Baisie Ghartey
Addressing the participants, Mr. Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, the Director of Shape Attitude Ghana, stressed the importance of protecting the environment for future generations. He also warned against irresponsible waste disposal, noting that it contributes to poor sanitation and the spread of diseases such as malaria and typhoid fever.
Mr. Ghartey encouraged students to desist from littering, support recycling initiatives and develop a culture of environmental responsibility. He also highlighted the importance of tree planting and called on the school community to nurture trees planted during the programme to ensure their survival and long-term environmental benefits.

As part of its practical efforts to promote environmental stewardship, Shape Attitude Ghana planted 11 seedlings of two tree species on the school campus to enhance the school's green cover and contribute to environmental restoration.
The organisation also donated six dustbins to the participating schools to encourage proper waste disposal and reinforce anti-littering habits among students.
These initiatives are part of Shape Attitude Ghana's commitment to transforming environmental awareness into tangible actions that foster cleaner and healthier school environments.

Mr. Reginald Eduafo Mensah
Representing the Effutu Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Reginald Eduafo Mensah, Deputy Director of Human Resource Management and Development of the Ghana Education Service in Winneba, commended Shape Attitude Ghana for its 12 years of service in promoting environmental sustainability, youth empowerment and positive behavioural change.
He noted that environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, deforestation and improper waste management continue to threaten livelihoods and future generations, emphasising that meaningful environmental restoration begins with individual and community action.
Mr. Mensah further underscored the role of schools in nurturing environmentally responsible citizens and urged learners to become ambassadors for environmental protection in their homes, schools and communities.

Mr. Joseph B. K. Ntsiful
Mr. Joseph B. K. Ntsiful, a member of Shape Attitude Ghana, called on participants to reflect on the growing environmental challenges confronting society, including flooding, illegal mining and indiscriminate waste disposal. He urged the students to consider their role in restoring and protecting the environment through responsible actions.

Mr. Kofi Baisie Ghartey presenting an award to Miss Macklina Obeng Afram
As part of the celebration, Shape Attitude Ghana recognised Miss Macklina Obeng Afram, a Class 8 student at the Municipal Assembly Junior High School, for her exemplary commitment to environmental cleanliness.
Upon receiving the recognition, Macklina attributed her environmental consciousness to lessons instilled by her uncle during childhood. She encouraged her colleagues to dispose of waste responsibly and to pick up litter whenever they encounter it, emphasising that individual actions can inspire positive change in society.
The event formed part of Shape Attitude Ghana's ongoing efforts to promote environmental education, responsible waste management and sustainable community development in the Effutu Municipality.
