Shape Attitude Ghana, Achiase Education Directorate Launch Sanitation Campaign in 11 Schools

Shape Attitude Ghana, in partnership with the Achiase District Education Directorate, has implemented a three-day sanitation sensitisation programme across 11 basic schools in the district, targeting improved hygiene practices and waste management among pupils.

The outreach, held from Tuesday, 28th to Thursday, 30th April, 2026, combined visual learning, interactive engagements and material support to address persistent sanitation challenges in school communities.

Mr. Wonderful Baisie Ghartey

Speaking at the opening session, Mr. Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, Founder and Director of Shape Attitude Ghana, emphasised that poor sanitation is fundamentally a behavioural issue. He stressed the organisation’s commitment to reshaping attitudes, particularly among young people, towards cleanliness, hygiene and environmental responsibility.

Through videos, demonstrations and guided discussions, pupils were taken through key topics including improper waste disposal, waste segregation, handwashing practices and the health risks associated with open defecation and unsanitary environments. Facilitators highlighted diseases such as malaria, cholera, typhoid and eye infections as common consequences of poor hygiene, urging pupils to maintain clean surroundings both at school and at home.

Mr. Samuel Wadier Kwae

Mr. Samuel Wadier Kwae, District Director of Education, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention. He noted that instilling positive sanitation habits in pupils is key to raising a generation capable of maintaining clean communities without compulsion, adding that the partnership with Shape Attitude Ghana represents a step in the right direction.

He further indicated that the Directorate would sustain the impact of the programme by monitoring sanitation practices in beneficiary schools and incorporating the lessons into routine school activities.

Headteachers of the participating schools, who facilitated the mobilisation of pupils and coordination of the sessions, expressed appreciation for the initiative and the support received, particularly the provision of waste bins to enhance sanitation on their campuses.
